“Through portraiture and the language of paint, Neither Here Nor There explores themes of identity, beauty, gender, race and through the ritual of ornamentation. Painterly and glittery affectations, abound with intersecting swales of color. Complex myriads of luminous rhinestones and glitter speckle the landscapes. Floral elements are utilized as graphic representations of not only a familial narrative, but also the contrast of the natural and artificial world. Lush flowers, vines and patterns emerge in order to immerse the subject and capture the viewer’s attention. This installation is a collaboration between Jasmine Zelaya and New Orleans based artist, Jacob Reptile, Owner and Director of The Aquarium Gallery and Studios.”
